Comments:
Peter Van Vechten was the son of Teunis Van Vechten, a merchant, and Elizabeth De Wandelaer Van Vechten. In 1805 they lived on the west corner of Broadway and Maiden Lane in Albany. Mourning pictures executed on canvas with oils, such as this one, are uncommon. Most were embroidered or painted on silk.
