Contemporary photographer Sarite Sanders has produced a stunning collection of photographs that captures the mysterious radiance and residual spirituality of Egypt’s ancient ruins. These dramatic black and white photographs, complemented by quotations from a range of sources, recall the iconic early-nineteenth-century travel photography that captured for Westerners the awe and majesty of pharaonic Egypt.Photographed using infrared film, the images are often dark and edgy, and reveal the ancient monuments in sharp relief, forcing us to see, as though for the first time, Egypt’s timeless pyramids, imposing statues, and breathtaking architecture.
This exhibition includes 40 photographs and is accompanied by a fully illustrated book.
