This exhibition features a selection of works from the Albany Institute's growing collection of contemporary art. A priority collecting area since 1988, the museum's contemporary art collection has grown from forty works by twenty-two artists to over 250 works by 100 artists.
Each of the artists represented in this exhibition—Sharon Bates, Allen Grindle, Phyllis Kulmatiski, Harold Lohner, and Michael Oatman—have lived and worked in the region and have made significant contributions to the area's cultural landscape as artists, curators, and teachers.
The acquisition of these works has been made possible by generous donations from individuals and from the Contemporary Art Fund, established in 1989 and dedicated solely to purchasing works of art by contemporary regional artists.
