First published in the Troy Sentinel, Moore’s poem soon attracted attention of readers around the country. Since then, the poem has been translated into hundreds of languages and recited from memory by millions of children around the world. In her new book, Twas the Night before Christmas: The Art and History of the Classic Christmas Poem, author Pam McColl has lovingly researched the artistic and literary origins of the poem. The book includes hundreds of vintage images and classic children’s book illustrations, as well as many old and new literary stories that help to explain the enormous impact Moore’s poem has had on holiday customs and traditions.
