Adventures in New York History - Lecture by Dr. Bruce W. Dearstyne

Dr. Bruce W. Dearstyne will share history stories from his recent books, The Spirit of New York: Defining Events in the Empire State’s History (2022), The Crucible of Public Policy: New York Courts in the Progressive Era (2022) and Progressive New York: Change and Reform in the Empire State, 1900-1920: A Reader(2024) and reflect on the lessons of history. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Author bio:

Bruce W. Dearstyne holds a BA in history from Hartwick College and a PhD in history from Syracuse University. He has taught history at SUNY Albany, SUNY Potsdam, and Russell Sage College. He worked at the New York Office of State History and was for many years a program director at the State Archives.  Dearstyne has written dozens of articles on history, archives, libraries, and related topics for several publications including History News, AASLH Technical Leaflets,  Public Historian, New York History, New York Archives, New York State Bar Association Journal, History News Network, and TIME Magazine’s Made by History.
