A Human-Like Voice within a Cloak of Colorful Plumage: The Allure of the Parrot in Western Art - Lecture by Doug Cohn
Dr. Doug Cohn’s lecture will survey how artists over the centuries have depicted members of the parrot family, from symbols of Judeo-Christian heritage to simple decorative objects to stand-ins for human subjects.
The program is free with museum admission, no registration required.
A practicing veterinarian in Albany for 26 years, Doug Cohn has shared his home with a cockatoo companion for the past 37 years. He has been involved with the Albany Institute since 1998 as a volunteer, donor, and trustee, and currently chairs the museum’s Collections Committee.
