Join us to dabble in printmaking, painting, sculpture, book arts, and more as we make beautiful pieces of art! In these weekly, three-day morning programs, children will create vibrant works of art inspired by our summer exhibitions and our permanent collections.
Print it!
Week 1: July 5, 6, 7 (Ages 6-12)
Join us to become a master printer this summer! Young artists will jump into the world of printmaking and sample a number of techniques including relief, gelatin, and monotype printing.
Paint!
Week 2: July 12, 13, 14(Ages 6-12) Brush with greatness this week as you get creative with tempera and watercolor paint. Participants will experiment with brushstrokes, paint additives, and resist as we create our own masterpieces.
Book it!
Week 3: July 19, 20, 21 (Ages 6-12)
Explore the field of book art as you create our own art book. We’ll draw inspiration from the Masterworks Paper exhibition to produce our own masterwork of an art portfolio book. Young artists will use drawing, paint, and mixed media materials throughout this class.
Fabulous Faces
Week 4: July 26, 27, 28 (Ages 6-12) Join us as we investigate the portraits on view in the museum’s galleries and use them as inspiration for our own artwork. We’ll create figurative work featuring silhouettes, paper dolls, and more as we use drawing, painting, and sculptural skills.
Lovely Letters
Week 5: August 2, 3, 4 (Ages 6-12) Explore the elegant art of calligraphy with us this summer! We’ll try out brush lettering, hand lettering fancy fonts and more while using materials like ink, paint, and decorative pens.
Paper in 3-D
Week 6: August 9, 10, 11 (Ages 6-12)
Together we’ll transform flat paper into three dimensional wonders! We’ll try our hand at quilled paper designs, origami, and papier măché.
Egyptian Inspirations-Registration is full
Week 7: August 16, 17, 18 (Ages 6-12) Discover the beauty of ancient Egyptian art and culture! This class will tour our ancient Egypt galleries, and have a blast in the studio creating art inspired by what we’ve learned. We’ll discover exciting myths, and create lion masks to look like the goddess, Sekmet.
Clay & Sculpture!-Registration is full
Week 8: August 23, 24, 25 (Ages 6-12) Join us to create art that truly stands out! We’ll work with sculptural materials like clay and wire to create our own unique sculptures.
Drawn to Art-Registration is full
Week 9: August 30, 31, September 1 (Ages 6-12)
Make your mark as you try out drawing mediums like chalk pastels, oil pastels, drawing pencils, conté crayon, and charcoal. We’ll discover new techniques and explore texture and value scale in our artwork.
Registration Tips:
-Please use a desktop computer for registration as mobile devices do not have the required security needed.
-Login and password in the registration process is optional, but if used keeps your information on file so your next registration is more simple.
Class registration assumes consent for photographs to be used for museum purposes. Please contact us if you would not like your child to be photographed.
