German immigrant lithographer Henry Schile produced numerous prints that had popular appeal, especially for the nation's urban residents and newly arrived immigrants. Several of Schile's prints even included bilingual titles, in English and German. This composite print depicting various scenes in New York's Catskill Mountains, displays the attractions a tourist could encounter while traveling to the region on board the Ulster and Delaware Railroad, shown in several vignettes. The hotel represented in both upper and lower central scenes was the Grand Hotel constructed by the Ulster and Delaware Railroad and opened to the public in 1881.
