Established in 1872, Bartley J.E. Mullen bottled a variety of carbonated beverages including sarsaparilla, birch beer, grape soda and vichy water for consumption by Albany residents.  During the early 20th century, carbonated drinks were advertised as a healthful alternative to alcohol.
