This mangle has a well-documented Albany history.  It was purchased by Earl Van Alstyne for his wife Olga in 1952 at W.M. Whitney and Company's department store for $274.95.  The bill of sale, instructions and all related documents (now in the collection of the AIHA Library) were acquired with the object.

This is an excellent example of the kinds of 20th century objects that will be used in exhibitions which interpret topics such as the influence of new technologies on everyday life, the rise of consumerism, and the changing role of women in American society in the 20th century.  It was donated to the museum by Joan Lord, daughter of Olga Van Alstyne.
