Furniture

The Albany Institute's furniture collection, ranging from the 17th through the 20th centuries, is comprised of pieces with a regional provenance made in New York State, with an emphasis on Albany and New York City.

The museum's collection includes pieces by noted New York City cabinetmakers including Gilbert Ash, Duncan Phyfe and a suite of furniture made by Charles Honore Lannuier for Stephen Van Rensselaer IV.  Albany cabinetmakers represented in the collection include James McChesney, Lomis & Pelton, William Buttre and John Minch and William Alvord.
