| Larry Kagan makes his sculptures from found objects usually collected at local scrap yards. Each of the elements had a purpose or history before they reached the scrap metal yard, but Kagan's use of this material forces the viewer to re-examine the objects in their new context. His sculptures, which often appear to be drawings in steel, are elegant and insightful, containing social commentary. Born in Germany, Larry Kagan received a BA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1968 and an MA in Studio Arts from the State University of New York at Albany in 1970. He is currently a professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Kagan has exhibited throughout the U.S. and Europe, and has works in collections including the U.S. Embassy in St. Petersburg, Russia, the State University of New York at Albany, and the Jewish Museum in New York City. |
